Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort

First established as Al Ain Zoo in 1968 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan AL Nahyan, the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is undergoing a complete re-development that will transform its facilities into the largest entertainment, educational, conservation zoological and botanical gardens in the world, when completed in 2013.

The primary mission of the overall new development of Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is to provide a world-class, unique facility combining entertaining and educational experience for residents and tourist to the Abu Dhabi Emirate with conservation, breeding and research facilities.

AL Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is located in Al Ain City under Jebel Hafeet, the highest mountain in UAE. The project will include more than 900 hectares of land and is currently home to more than 4,300 animals: 2,500 mammals, 1,200 birds, and 600 reptiles, belonging to over 180 species, 30% of which are considered to be endangered.

The re-development project, under construction now, comprise a new walking “World Deserts”, five drive-through safaris, a large conservation and breeding centre, botanical garden, family hotel and resort, residential units, shopping and entertaining areas, in addition to the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center which forms a fundamental part of the overall site development.

Phase one of the project will include part of World Deserts, the African Safari, the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, the 200 bedrooms family hotel and resort, retail areas, and up to 255 residential units, part of 5 residential clusters to be completed. Phase 1 is to be completed in November 2011 with Phases 2 and 3 to be completed in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

The AWPR staff is now around 400, and the number is expected to grow considerably to cater for the various components of the project and its 2.5 million visitors expected to come annually.

While it complements, and is an integral part of the Abu Dhabi 2030 and Al Ain 2030 vision, the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort aims to become a model for cultural and ecological sustainability, conservation and education and is also very proud of its heritage and the special contributions made by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to its creation and development.
